Job Title: Surveyor
Location: Navajo Mine
Reports to: Short Range Engineering Supervisor
Department: Technical Services
Description:
The Surveyor will assist in day-to-day support of the Technical Services Department. Surveyor must take a personal and active approach to health, safety and environment and understand and follow all state, federal and company health, safety and environmental requirements applicable to the work area and tasks assigned.
Summary of Position:
The Surveyor will work in active and nonactive work areas collecting data points in support of coal mine outs, bench/road designs, cut/fill surveys, aerial surveys, data management and other technical support as needed.
Essential Duties:
• Utilize current survey tools and methods to obtain data required to develop draft plans and designs.
• Calculate volumes for various large-scale projects.
• Layout and stake projects.
• Assist with monthly end-of-month survey.
• Assist the engineering group with monthly tonnage and volumetric reconciliations.
• Conduct daily survey responsibilities with Trimble GPS units and drone systems.
• Utilize AutoCAD and other drafting software to develop drawings and maps.
• Maintain/Assist with remote tracking on equipment (ex: Carlson Command, AVA, or other sensory equipment).
• Cast blast monitoring and volumetric calculation.
• Work with various monitoring equipment systems.
• Identify hazards, constructively raise safety concerns with supervisor, and complete proper reporting.
• Coordinate with staff to effectively support reclamation and mining operations.
• Clarify expectations and goals with supervisor as well as seek regular feedback and incorporate the feedback into work product.
• Work with other departments across the business to achieve the business goals of the assigned department.
• Consistently improve and learn through effective feedback and coaching.
• Various mapping and drafting projects as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications:
• Land Surveying Degree or Drafting and Design Technology Degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent technical skills in civil or mining applications and a working knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting programs.
• Currently possess or can ability to obtain Part 107 Drone Certification to become a registered drone pilot with the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA).
• Demonstrated advance proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills for the purpose of preparing and presenting information.
• Capable of meeting commitments and delivering on expected targets, even when faced with difficult, adverse, or time-constrained situations.
• Demonstrated ability to work outside in all conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize projects and self-motivated to generate creative solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to work with different levels of staff and workforce in a positive manner.
• Demonstrated willingness to work overtime when necessary. AutoCAD/Maptek Vulcan experience preferred.
• Mining experience is preferred.
• Possess a valid State Driver’s License and maintain an insurable driving record.
