Job Title: Engineer Environmental Sr.

Description:
Must take a personal and active approach to health, safety and environment and understand and follow all state, federal and company health, safety and environmental requirements applicable to the work area and tasks assigned.
Summary of Position:
The role of the Engineer Environmental Sr. will be to lead the development and implementation of mine reclamation plans/design which are economically viable and meet all environmental and regulatory requirements. This role will provide regulatory support to the mine, including coordination of Environmental Management System activities and environmental monitoring, reporting and permitting to ensure mine operations are conducted efficiently and in an environmentally responsible manner.
Essential Duties:
- Planning and Implementation of reclamation activities such as regrade, topsoil and revegetation.
- Design reclamation using Natural Regrade or geomorphic principles.
- Subject expert in Environmental and Regulatory Requirements.
- Project Management, including planning and scheduling of capital projects, and direct special projects.
- Mentor, coach and develop less senior staff.
- Promote and coordinate business improvement initiatives.
- Presentation and communication of Mine Reclamation Plans.
- Responsible for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance.
- Responsible for all permit activities.
- Highly Skilled in the development of agency relationships.
- Continually monitor Environmental and Regulatory Requirement Changes and communicates appropriately.
- Coordinates the implementation of Health Safety and Environmental Management System.
- Responsible for budget and forecasting process.
- Support/conduct capital justifications on environmental projects.
- Experience with all dimensions of Environmental Planning/Design.
- Lead the development of annual budget, including cost and financial analysis.
- Ability to interface professionally with representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations including deferral, state and local regulators.
- Must be assertive, take initiative and be able to propose alternative strategies.
- Demonstrates competence in key areas of management and leadership expertise including: relationship management, staff direction and motivation, quality management and the achievement of targets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental/Civil/Hydrology Engineering, Natural Resource or related discipline.
- Minimum of six years relevant industry experience.
- Excellent communication skills: written, oral and presentation formats.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to interface and communicate with operations personnel.
- Demonstrated time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated proficiency in project management methodology.
- Manage required environmental design.
- Advance proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Soils, Plant Identification applied.
- Demonstrated strong negotiating skills.
- Expert use of Design Software i.e. AutoCAD, Carlson Civil, SurvCAD, SedCad, Tri-Hydro, HEC HMS, with knowledge of MineScape useful.
- Mining experience preferred.
- State Surface Foreman Certification preferred.
- Professional Engineer Certification preferred.
- Experience in permitting i.e. air, discharge, wetlands preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to understand all stages of reclamation preferred.
- Experience in Post Mine Topography Design preferred.
- Possess a valid State Driver’s License and maintain an insurable driving record.
- Applicant must provide written letters of recommendations from their past two supervisors, who are willing to confirm their recommendations and attest to applicant’s self-motivation, positive safety attitude, ability to act independently, make sound decisions, and work well with others.
