This position is located 30 miles southwest of Farmington, New Mexico on the Navajo Indian Reservation.  The mine produces approximately 5 million tons of coal per year and is the sole supplier of coal to the Four Corners Power Plant.

Job Title:   Dragline Grounds Person                                     Location: Navajo Mine

Reports to:  Production Supervisor                                        Department:  Overburden Removal

Position Summary:

The Dragline Grounds Person will assist with daily operations, coordinate safely with the dragline operator and oiler, and ensure all surrounding equipment and support systems (cables, cable trees, junction boxes, etc.) are correctly handled and maintained. This role requires high situational awareness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to changing working conditions around the dragline, including high walls, spoil slopes, sloughs, and high-voltage environments.

Essential Duties:

• Understand and support safe dragline operations, including working within the swing radius and around high-voltage power cables.
• Operate mining support equipment such as track dozers (D8-D11), motor graders, wheel loaders, and cable handling equipment.
• Maintain and prepare the dragline pad, key cut, walk road, and grade for dragline moves.
• Assist in the movement of dragline cable, junction boxes, and overhead cable trees.
• Conduct daily inspections of support equipment, cable systems and high-voltage gloves to ensure safety and compliance.
• Communicate effectively with dragline operators, oilers, supervisors, engineers and other personnel to maximize dragline productivity and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate dragline plans and proactively identify or resolve variances in coordination with the operations team.
• Operate the dragline on an as-needed basis and support training of ne personnel in dragline ground operations.
• Promote a team-oriented environment while maintaining a positive and proactive attitude.
• Ensure all operations are performed in accordance with MSHA, State/Federal regulations.

  Necessary Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of recent experience (within the last 5 years) in a mining environment, supporting dragline operations.
• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Must be qualified in or able to qualify for the operation of:
  • Track Dozers (D8-D11)
  • 16H/16M Motor Graders
  • Wheel Loaders 988G
  • Cable Handling Equipment
• Ability to complete the Dragline Grounds Person and High-Voltage (H)) training Program within 3 months of hire.
• Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts and varying schedules.
• Demonstrated leadership, self-motivation, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong oral communication skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Must be safety focused, with a proactive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement.

  Preferred Attributes

• Previous dragline experience, including operating, assisting in movement, and cable management.
• Conflict resolution skills and ability to mentor others in the dragline operation process.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions and priorities.

 

 

Navajo Mine offers excellent benefits to include competitive wages, medical, dental, vision, and paid time off.  Hourly rate for this position is $41.29/hour.
