Civil Engineer 


Description:

Summary of Position:


As a Civil Engineer you will be responsible for the oversight and execution of civil and structural components of energy-related development and constructability projects, including power generation facilities, substations, transmission infrastructure, access roads, and site development. This role ensures projects are technically designed, engineered, economical, constructed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, engineering best practices, and all applicable regulations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Provide civil and structural engineering support for the development and constructability of energy infrastructure projects.
Develop and review engineering designs, construction drawings, and specifications.
Conduct site investigations and evaluations to determine project feasibility and design parameters.
Oversee and monitor field construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
Collaborate with contractors, surveyors, environmental teams, and project managers to coordinate design and constructability efforts.
Prepare project estimates, budgets, and schedules for civil works.
Review submittals, shop drawings, and material specifications for accuracy and compliance.
Perform quality assurance inspections and document field progress.
Identify and resolve technical or construction issues to maintain cost and schedule objectives.
Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and environmental regulations.
Prepare engineering reports, calculations, and as-built documentation.
Direct or participate in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction. 
Works with district management and operations personnel to address issues related to regulatory compliance and sanitary surveys. 
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences, and reviewing professional publications.
Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specification, constructions plans, contract, and safety standards. 
Prepares and reviews bid documents for construction of water and sewer line relocations and wash crossings. 
Serves as the Liaison with regulatory agencies concerning compliance.
May participate in developing long-range strategies for significant site problems.
Provides input to projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency and/or reviews design and documentation of projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules and any regulatory requirements.
Remains cognizant of current technology and engineering developments as well as industry and competitive developments.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        


Necessary Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with a preferred 5 – 10 years of intermediate or senior level experience in civil or structural engineering within the energy, mining, or heavy industrial sector. 
Master’s degree in civil engineering or related field is preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and construction management software.
Understanding of geological design, grading, drainage, and foundation systems. 
Experience in generation project development/management and surveying.
Familiarity with energy infrastructure construction, including transmission, generation, or mining site development. 
Strong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, MSHA, ASTM, ACI)                                                                                       
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Strong teamwork, initiative, analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team across engineering and construction disciplines are essential
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Attention to safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
Ability to effectively resolve conflicts in high-pressure situations. 
Adaptable and self-motivated, with the ability to respond to changing project requirements and field conditions.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation. The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds; rarely to horizontally lift up to 34 pounds; and rarely lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds or swing up to 12 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 100 pounds of force. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally use a right-hand grip up to 30 pounds of force; and rarely use hand at an elevated level. The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating; kneel; and frequently to walk; climb stairs; crouch; squat repetitively; and occasionally crawl. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Working Environment: Works in office environment and site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Working outdoors in all weather conditions; working in plant environment; working in shop environment; and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
