Sr Director Transmission

Summary of Position:

The Sr. Director, Transmission will provide strategic, technical and operational leadership for the planning, development, and operation of NavEnergy’s transmission system. This role requires a deeply experienced transmission professional with hands-on experience managing transmission assets, ensuring NERC/CIP compliance, applying FERC rules and ensuring operating reliability. The role combines technical, operational, and business leadership to optimize system reliability, compliance, and performance.

The Sr. Director will have responsibility for short-term development oversight of transmission system technical designs, operating contracting strategies, system interconnection with major utilities, construction input and long-term operations. The Sr. Director will lead teams responsible for transmission planning, development, daily operations, NERC/CIP compliance, and cybersecurity. Technology understanding is critical, as is prior experience managing significant transmission assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

?Provide leadership for all transmission system activities, including planning, development, operations, and asset management.
?Ensure NERC Reliability Standards and CIP compliance across all transmission assets.
?Oversee transmission equipment, substation, and network assets, managing capital projects, maintenance, and operations strategy.
?Lead technical teams in transmission planning, operations, or development, including new project development and business setup.
?Maintain cybersecurity oversight for transmission systems and interface with IT/OT teams to ensure secure operations.
?Interpret and apply FERC rules and regulations as they relate to transmission operations and planning.
?Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and capital plans for transmission assets.
?Serve as primary liaison with regulators, industry associations, and utilities regarding transmission operations, planning, and compliance.
?Mentor and develop transmission personnel, fostering a high-performance culture.
?Identify and implement technology enhancements to improve transmission reliability, efficiency, and monitoring.
?Support government and strategic partner funding initiatives.
Necessary Qualifications:
?Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
?10+ years of progressive experience in transmission, with demonstrated responsibility for transmission assets and systems.
?Hands-on experience in transmission operations or development, including planning, construction, and commissioning.
?Demonstrated leadership of transmission assets, business unit performance and as a manager of managers.
?Strong knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards, CIP compliance, and FERC rules.
?Experience managing technical teams and leading cross-functional projects.
?Familiarity with transmission technologies, substation equipment, protection and control systems, and SCADA/EMS.
?Proven ability to develop and execute business and technical strategies in transmission.
?Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation. The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds; rarely to horizontally lift up to 34 pounds; and rarely lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds or swing up to 12 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 100 pounds of force. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally use a right-hand grip up to 30 pounds of force; and rarely use hand at an elevated level. The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating; kneel; and frequently to walk; climb stairs; crouch; squat repetitively; and occasionally crawl. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment: Works in office environment and site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Working outdoors in all weather conditions; working in plant environment; working in shop environment; and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
