Geologist / Hydrogeologist
Description:

Summary of Position: 
The role of the Geologist / Hydrologist is to provide technical geological and hydrological expertise and supervision in support of all company and planning activities.  The role will also perform project planning, scheduling, and budgeting. The position will either lead or be a member of mine-site teams accomplishing the work, from design and permitting through construction completion.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Plan, organize and manage drilling programs to collect geologic data
Supervise drilling and geophysical logging activities.
Supervise geologic data collection processes and procedures
Prepare geologic models for mine plan forecasting.
Perform hydrologic modelling, and designs for wastewater process channels, culverts, ponds, other hydraulic structures, erosion and scour protection, and sediment control.
Compile and analyze geologic data.
Prepare maps, cross sections and written reports as required.
Provide technical assessments on various geologic / hydrology issues.
Travel will be required to the mine sites.
Develop relationships with relevant federal and state agencies to secure State Engineer’s Office Permits, mine permits from the Department of Environmental Quality, and other permits requiring hydrologic expertise.
Qualifications: 
      Knowledge and Relevant Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Civil or related discipline.
Minimum of five years relevant mining industry experience.
Experience in geologic modeling.
Experience in hydrologic modeling.
State Surface Foreman Certification helpful.
Licensed Professional Geologist or Engineer preferred.
Valid driver’s license.
Skills: 
Excellent communication skills: written, oral and presentation formats.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment is essential.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Competent in use of geologic modelling software (MineScape useful).
Competent in use of Design Software i.e. AutoCAD, SurvCAD, SedCad, Tri-Hydro, HEC HMS.
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.
Leadership/Management:
Must be assertive, take initiative and be able to perceive, analyze and promote more effective alternative strategies.
Demonstrates competence in key areas of management and leadership expertise including: relationship management, staff direction and motivation, quality management and the achievement of targets.
Acts as Department Manager when necessary.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation. The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds; rarely to horizontally lift up to 34 pounds; and rarely lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds or swing up to 12 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 100 pounds of force. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally use a right hand grip up to 30 pounds of force; and rarely use hand at an elevated level. The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating; kneel; and frequently to walk; climb stairs; crouch; squat repetitively; and occasionally crawl. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment: Works in office environment and site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Working outdoors in all weather conditions; working in plant environment; working in shop environment; and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
