Join us for Summer 2025! Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC), is an energy company founded on a rich coal legacy with strategic and diversified assets, to serve shareholders, employees, and our communities. We operate surface coal mines in northeast Wyoming, southeast Montana, and northwest New Mexico, and are currently searching for Engineering Internship candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Spend time shadowing the operations and processes at the mine.
- Learn to use Real Time Kinetic (RTK) Survey equipment.
- Help with permit compliance inspections (solid and hazardous waste, SPCC, SWPPP, Air Quality, etc.)
- Assist with award winning reclamation and restoration practices.
- Extensive work with soils, vegetation and hydrologic functions of a reclamation system.
- Field work as assigned including stockpile inventory, soil characterization, vegetation analysis, fence maintenance, reset staff gauges in ponds, reclamation tree counts, survey assistance, contractor management, hydrologic surveys and wetland maintenance, wildlife counts.
- Conduct a comprehensive engineering study with a final report.
- Assist in engineering evaluations and projects.
- Clarify expectations and goals with Supervisor as well as seek regular feedback and incorporate the feedback into work product.
- Work with other departments across the business to achieve the business goals of assigned department.
- Consistently improve and learn through effective feedback and coaching.
- Abide by MSHA regulations, safety policies at the mine, and SMCRA regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- 2.75 cumulative GPA with a 3.25 GPA in major.
- Enrolled in Environmental Engineering, Ecosystem Science or Reclamation/Restoration program or related in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree.
- High level knowledge and familiarity with computers is required with a focus on the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word). Experience or classwork using AutoCAD and GIS is strongly desired.

- Ability to prioritize projects and be self-motivated to generate creative solutions.
- Possess a valid US State driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record.
