Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC) is an energy company founded on a rich coal legacy with strategic and diversified assets to serve shareholders, employees, and our communities. We operate surface coal mines in northeast Wyoming, southeast Montana, and northwest New Mexico, and are currently searching for Engineering Internship candidates.
Environmental Intern
Responsibilities:
- Spend time shadowing the operations and processes at the Antelope Coal Mine.
- Help with compliance inspections (weekly waste, SPCC, SWPPP, etc.)
- Field work as assigned includes checking/installing topsoil identification signs, resetting staff gauges in ponds, reclamation tree counts, and surveying pond sediment levels.
- Assist in prudent engineering practices and account for health, safety, environmental, volume, and cost requirements.
- Independently conduct engineering research and studies and write technical reports.
- Assist in engineering evaluations and projects.
- Clarify expectations and goals with supervisor as well as seek regular feedback and incorporate the feedback into work product.
- Work with other departments across the business to achieve the business goals of the assigned department.
- Consistently improve and learn through effective feedback and coaching.
- Obey MSHA regulations and safety practices at the mine, identify and report any safety hazards to the supervisors or managers, and complete proper reporting as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Enrolled in an accredited program in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in environmental, Civil Engineering, or Rangeland Management.
- 2.75 cumulative GPA and 3.25 GPA in chosen major.
- High-level knowledge and familiarity with computers are required, with a focus on the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for the purpose of preparing and presenting information.
- Build trust by meeting commitments and delivering on expected targets, even when faced with difficult, adverse, or time-constrained situations.
- Ability to prioritize projects and self-motivated to generate creative solutions.
- Possess a valid State driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record.
